What is a blogger, anyway, you ask?
According to dictionary.reference.com, a blogger is someone who writes of his or her own experiences, observations and opinions. In 2008, estimates put the number of tracked blogs at 112.8 million... not including China.
It's now 2014. Whoever was counting stopped long ago.
The numbers themselves mean little to me. The definition of “blogger” interests me more, especially regarding opinions. “Everyone's a critic.” The old saw is a response to a negative comment by someone whom the recipient feels is unqualified to judge.
I suppose I fall into that category. Though I do my best to make sense of my observations and experiences, I'm far from an expert on everything. Then again, not everything requires an expert to figure out.
I try, however, not to be unfair or cowardly. I recently read a quote by a public figure who took issue with bloggers. He said bloggers, emboldened by the anonymity of the Internet, write things they haven't the guts to say their subjects' faces.
I won't take pot shots from the cover of the 'net.
I will continue, though, to do my best to give my opinions with respect, regardless of what I observe or experience. Given what goes on in life, that can be a challenge.
